“Ghost” by Wildes – A Song Review

“Haunting” is an overused term when describing vocals, so we normally look for a different word. But the intent in Wildes’ “Ghost” was to create a haunting aura. Almost every feature of the single has an otherworldly feel.

Wildes is the performance name of Ella Walker. When explaining the message of “Ghost,” the Londoner stated, “It’s a song about the effects a past lover has on our future selves.  Their words haunt us, and we long for their memories to remain after they’ve gone.  Even the smallest moment with them can shape who we become.”

Lyrics of “Ghost” by Wildes
In the night I lay awake
A shadow dawns across my face
A silver line that I could trace
Growing fainter

The memories I kept in store
Trapped inside my heavy soul
Will they stay young while I grow old
A timeless chamber

All my wounds are open wide
They won’t heal, while you’re insight
Try to clear my troubled mind
Too many times

Together we’ll be
Oh, I won’t heal so
Say you’ll always haunt me
Say you’ll always haunt me
And in your arms, I’ll know
Oh, I’ll feel you closer
Say you’ll always haunt me
Say you’ll always haunt me

Oh, we said is set in stone
Can’t forget the words you’ve spoke
Echoing through empty homes
How you haunt me

I’ll always feel you on my skin
And the raging of the winds
And away you fly
Through the blackened skies

All my wounds are opened up
They won’t heal without your love
Try to clear my troubled mind
Too many times

Together we’ll be
Oh, I won’t heal so
Say you’ll always haunt me
Say you’ll always haunt me
And in your arms, I’ll know
Oh, I’ll feel you closer
Say you’ll always haunt me
Say you’ll always haunt me

I keep holding on
So, say you’ll always haunt me
Say you’ll always haunt me
Say you’ll always haunt me
Say you’ll always haunt me
Say you’ll always haunt me

Together we’ll be
Oh, I won’t heal so
Say you’ll always haunt me
Say you’ll always haunt me
And in your arms, I’ll know
Oh, I feel you closer
Say you’ll always haunt me
Say you’ll always haunt me
