“Beautiful Lie” by Andrew Goldring – A Song Review

With the exception of the striking vocal soars, “Beautiful Lie” seems effortless. The lyrics are pained and impassioned, but the vocalization approach is peacefully reflective. The instruments are relaxed, but they are effective in enhancing the atmosphere.
The feature we particularly favor is the short bridge that is first heard at 1:23. It sounds like a bass and then a synth playing atop a rhythmic guitar. The sequence of notes plays a second time before the vocals return. There isn’t anything complicated about the bridge, but the contrast with its surroundings is impactful.

Andrew Goldring is from Salt Lake City, Utah. He recently released a four-track EP entitled “Morning Light.” For the EP, Goldring played the guitar, bass, keys and drums. Christian Lucy provided additional keyboards.

Andrew Goldring’s new EP “Morning Light” is the opening of a new era for the Utah based songwriter. Self produced by Goldring and mixed/mastered by Philip Shaw Bova (Feist, Andy Shauf, Bahamas), Andrew’s newest sounds are both fresh & familiar. Rooted in classic songwriting influences such as Neil Young & Ryan Adams, Goldring steps out of the Singer-Songwriter comfort zone, often painting a lush soundscape with lo-fi vocals, fuzzy guitar leads, and dreamy Rhodes piano.
Andrew garnered some kind words from the Huffington Post, who spoke kindly of his first single saying “Songwriter Andrew Goldring invokes the whimsical melancholy of Elliott Smith and Sparklehorse, grappling with our existence with humility and skepticism.” - Chris Kompanek.
After fronting two different bands over the past 5 years (Golden Sun, Great Interstate), Andrew decided to step out on his own in 2016 and pursue music as a solo artist. Backed by an evolving group of talented friends - or sometimes by himself with a guitar and bass drum, he’s brought his songs to venues all over the west. Returning from a successful southwestern tour this spring, Andrew is gearing up to release “Morning Light” on 7/1/17. The EP will be released on CD, Digital, and a limited edition 10” Vinyl pressing. Andrew has shared the stage with Joseph Arthur, Margaret Glaspy, Maps & Atlases, The Appleseed Cast, among other national acts. His music has been featured on NPR affiliate KUER’s RadioWest with Doug Fabrizio, and regularly appears on Utah community radio station KRCL.
