“Tierp” by My Heart Is a Metronome – A Song Review

We’re not claiming 2016 was a disappointing year for Indieheads. The end-of-the–year lists of best songs were well stocked with strong tracks. However, the depth of blogworthy songs was shallower than past years.
If the start of 2017 is a reliable indicator, this is a year to be excited. The latest evidence arrived from Sweden. My Heart Is a Metronome shared the title track from a four-track EP scheduled for release on February 10 via Soul City Enterprise. “Tierp” begins with a guitar hook that provides no warning of what is to follow. The hook, which is light and inviting, resurfaces at various times. But “Tierp” is predominately Rock, both vocally and instrumentally.
The Facebook site of My Heart Is a Metronome includes an image of the handwritten lyrics of “Tierp.” The image is embedded below. The message of the song relates to a childhood friendship that appears to have lost its luster.

My Heart Is a Metronome is from Uppsala, Sweden. The members are Gustaf Simonsson (bass), Mattis Malinen (vocals, guitar) and Felix Carlsten (drums).

Lyrics of “Tierp” by My Heart Is a Metronome
Waking up
Findin' you
On my couch again - hey
You and me
Grew up way too fast
Guess nothing is meant to last - friend

But whatcha' gonna do about it?
I was waiting for a miracle to guide me through
And maybe we can talk about it
Over the phone
Whatcha' gonna do about it? [Repeat 2x]

(We were kids)
Every summer - late up climbing silos
Yeah man, that's a sunrise
(Sun went down)
Remember Aspen - way before they wrecked it
Swimmin' where we shouldn't
Ran from the police - friends
Lesson learned
Smile with your heart
And not with the purdy fake – face

But whatcha' gonna do about it?
I was waiting for a miracle to guide me through
And maybe we can talk about it
Over the phone
Whatcha' gonna do about it? [Repeat 2x]

So whatcha' gonna do about it?
I was waiting for a miracle to guide me through
And maybe we can talk about it
Over the phone
Whatcha' gonna do about it?
I was waiting for a miracle to guide me through
And maybe we can talk about it
Over the phone
Whatcha' gonna do about it? [Repeat 2x]
