Folk Duo 2x – The Talbott Brothers and Caamp

The Talbott Brothers are Tyler and Nick Talbott in Portland, Oregon. “We Got Love” is a single that will be on the February 10 release of their 14-track album, “Gray.” The showstopper in “We Got Love” starts at 1:20, and is a reminder of the effectiveness of vocal processing. The best line of the lyrics (“Home is who you’re with when you don’t feel alone any more”) is highlighted by reverberation as the pitch ascends. But the draw to “We Got Love” resides throughout the track, not merely the one line and its execution.

Lyrics of “We Got Love” by The Talbott Brothers
Packed some bags and we headed west
Thought that it might be the best thing for us
I was thinking about me
All the things that you’d leave behind
Family and a peace of mind
But I, I got you

I am gonna love you ‘til the stars go out
Shelter up above you ‘til they all fall down
We ain't got a lot, but we got love
We ain't got a lot, but we got love

Floating like feathers in heavy rain
The two of us together can weather any change
That comes our way
Nothing here really feels like home
Home is who you’re with when you don’t feel alone anymore

I am gonna love you ‘til the stars go out
Shelter up above you ‘til they all fall down
We ain't got a lot, but we got love
We ain't got a lot, but we got love.

I am gonna love you ‘til the stars go out
Shelter up above you ‘til they all fall down
We ain't got a lot, but we got love
We ain't got a lot, but we got love.
I said
We ain't got a lot. we got love
We ain't got a lot, we got love.

Who was it that said melancholy doesn’t mix with banjo? Steve Martin? The lyrics of “Misty” paint a melancholy picture while the banjo marches along. The pain in the lyrics is transferred to the listener by the torment in the vocals. The song belongs to Caamp, a duo based in Columbus, Ohio. They are childhood friends Taylor Meier (guitar, lead vocals) and Evan Westfall (banjo, vocals).

Lyrics of “Misty” by Caamp
You know I can’t eat without you
And I can’t sleep without you
Stay up all night, writing songs about you
Take me on.

And I spend all my days drinking
So I don’t have to spend them thinking
And I know that I won’t last long this way.

Oh, you got me walking ten miles high
Step off, see if I can fly.

And my best guess, is too far off
And in my chest, the rhythms’ gone
And all of the rest, falls to the side

I sit alone in an empty house
Writing notes while I’m thinking ‘bout
The few folks, I didn’t let down

Oh, you got me walking ten miles high
Step off, see if I can fly.
Don’t care if I live or die, don’t care if I live or die.
