“Come and Gone” by Family of Things – A Song Review

Family of Things are operatic during some portions of “Come and Gone,” and then cinematic in other portions. The song moves through different energies and forms, but is skillfully held together by the piano.

Family of Things is the duo of Brad Barnham and Aaron Brown of Hamilton, Ontario. In listening to “Come and Gone,” there are similarities to fellow Canadians Half Moon Run. There are also differences, but if you only know and appreciate the music of one, it’s likely the same will be true for the other. Adding another recommendation, in researching Family of Things, we discovered Sleepy Boy, in which Barnham and Brown joined forces with Peter Mol. Their song “Gotta Get Up” is embedded in this post.

Lyrics of “Come and Gone” by Family of Things
Oh shut your mouth,
When you're thinking of saying things like this to me
You know I marvel at your glorious feat
And I worry for your soul

So don't be deceiving
With little puzzles playing games with fantasy
You know I can't afford to live my dreams
If you keep confusing me

Don't forget the tired and the restless warrior
Don't forget the lover that slaved to the bone
Don't forget the one who wasted his life away

You beckon me closer and I try to stay
But you push me away and my legs are weak
If I wasn't such a catastrophe
I'd stand with you for days, and days, and days

Don't forget the tired and the restless warrior
Don't forget the lover that slaved to the bone
Don't forget the one who wasted his life away

Yes, Don't forget the tired and the restless warrior
Don't forget the lover that slaved to the bone
Don't forget the one who wasted his life away

Somebody once told me,
"Be not afraid, cause if the good ones are hidin', they're well worth the wait"
So I tried waitin' for you
But what was the use
You'd come and gone

Yes, and I could see that you were hidin' somethin'
I could hear the worry in the tone of your voice
And I could feel that you were lovin' somebody else

And I could see that you were hidin' somethin'
I could hear the worry in the tone of your voice
And I could feel that you were lovin' somebody else
