Free Friday (“FL&R”) – January 6

Free and Legal Downloads? Yes, at least temporarily. Bands often temporarily permit free downloads of their releases.  The end of an offer is usually based on the expiration of a set period of time.  But at least for now, here are songs that qualify as Free, Legal and Recommended (FL&R) downloads.
Finding songs that can be legally downloaded is easy. The difficult task is to find legally downloadable music that we recommend. The hope is to post at least one FL&R song each Friday.
“Catherine in Moonlight” by The Pressure Kids includes elements of Young the Giant, but the female supporting vocals clearly separate the two bands. The band is based in Nashville. The members are Nick Johnston (vocals, guitar), Allan Cuva (guitar, vocals), Katy Carmichael (vocals, keys), Justin Bavier (bass), and Zach Bodman (drums).

Silences is an appropriate name of the band while they are performing the song “Before Ten (This Is Love).” The hushed lead vocals and isolated backing vocals pull the listener into the song, while the instruments vary in their demand for attention.
Silences is a Northern Ireland band (Armagh), The members are two cousins Conchúr and Breandán White, and their friends Christopher Harbinson, Michael Keyes, and Jonathan Downing.

Leoh is an Australian quartet in which two of the members are the sons of a third. The band comprises Franca Dobbin (vocals, guitar), Tobyn Fitch-Rabbitt (synth), Gary Dobbin (bass, backing vocals), and Bill Dobbin (drums). The Soundcloud stream of “Half Glass Girl” is embedded below, but go to the site of consistently outstanding Triple J Unearthed – CLICK HERE.
We assume it’s synth-generated, but the band exposes its Australian roots with the didgeridoo-like sound at the start and again around the 3:00 mark.

Lyrics of “Half Glass Girl”
She’s a half glass full girl,
In an empty world
Trying to fill her cup

She’s a pioneer
For the kind of gold
Hidden beneath amber liquid

Pick up the pieces
Oh, pick up the pieces
Go Home
So, pick up the pieces
Oh, pick up the pieces
Go Home
So, pick up your pieces
Oh, pick up your pieces
Go Home
Pick up the pieces
Oh, pick up your pieces
Go Home

She’s a half glass empty girl
In an empty world
Drinking to her future

She’s a pioneer
For the kind of gold
Hidden beneath amber liquid

Pick up the pieces
Oh, pick up the pieces
Go Home
So, pick up the pieces
Oh, pick up the pieces
Go Home
So, pick up your pieces
Oh, pick up your pieces
Go Home
Pick up the pieces
Oh, pick up your pieces
Go Home
