“Cool” by Fears Chella – A Song Review

When a band allows streaming of their dynamic debut single in July, but isn’t heard from again for the remainder of the year, it provides a better understanding of the phrase “conspicuous in its absence.” The release of “Cool” draw attention and anticipation for more of the same. The anticipation lingers into 2017.
“Cool” features guitar distortion that doesn’t normally play such a significant role in songs ready for Pop play. It also features three abrupt stops. Two occur in the midst of the song (at 1:29 and 2:41), while the third is the song’s conclusion.

Fears Chella is based in Manchester, UK. The members are Andy Gannon (vocals), Tom O’Neill (bass), Chris Hewitt (guitar) and Ben Tansey (drums).

Lyrics of “Cool” by Fears Chella
She was cool
When we were in school
Smoking cigarettes behind the bike sheds

She liked Nirvana
Cool at the time yeah
But now she’s 22, turning 43

Just a cliché
A total parasite
Drain the world of anything that’s fine
Dead eyed girls
Ugly on the inside
Drain the world of anything that’s fine

She was cool
When we were 16
She was cool
When we were 16
And now she’s 22, turning 43

She was cool
But were not kids anymore
Smoking cigarettes, Just now addicted to it

I don’t think you’re all that cool
At least not like you were in school
Don’t pretend everyone likes you

Just a cliché
A total parasite
Drain the world of anything that’s fine
Dead eyed girls, ugly on the inside
Drain the world of anything that’s

She was cool
When we were 16
She was cool
When we were 16

And now she’s 22, turning 43
