“Big Sparks” by Few Bits – A Song Review

Few Bits made a splash in the blogosphere with the release of the album “Big Sparks” on September 30. It’s the title song that particularly attracted Indie Obsessive. The vocals of Karolien Van Ransbeec are the attention-getter during the first few listens. Then, the variations in the characteristics of the guitar became the focal point.
There are extended guitar notes with reverberation characteristic of shoegaze. The processing starting at 1:40 is a good example. But there is a transition thirty seconds later and, at 2:13, there is even a slide guitar note with an approach that is more characteristic of Country. “Big Sparks” also includes times of quick-twitch guitar paly.
Few Bits is based in Belgium. They made the trip to the U.S. for SXSW 2016. We would love to say that we caught a performance, but must admit we didn’t recognize the talent of Few Bits until it was too late.
