“Disdained” by Jack Ellis - A Song Review

Jack Ellis continues to deliver on the promise he showed with the 2015 release of “Pocket of Lint.” It’s tempting to describe “Disdained” as a slow build, since the track includes periodic upshifts of energy. But there is a tsunami movement at 4:06, when the energy ebbs so significantly that it’s almost nonexistent, and then a powerful wave arrives.
Vocally, “Disdained” is effective in its contrast of Ellis’ sometimes rugged voice and the smoothness in the background “ooo.” And Ellis uses voice fluctuations to enhance the emotion behind the impact of an ended relationship.

Jack Ellis is a singer/songwriter from Cardiff, Wales.
