Ibeyi – A Review

December is an amazing month for music discovery. People are talking about the best songs/albums and writers are providing their list of favorites.
Our friends, Clark and Cigdem, gave us the name Ibeyi when referring to a favorite album release of 2015. Ibeyi (pronounces ee-bey-ee) is the performance name of twin sisters Lisa-Kaindé Diaz and Naomi Diaz. The name is “twins” in Yoruba, a Nigerian language of their ancestors.

Quoting the Facebook page of Ibeyi:
"Ibeyi are 20 years old French Cuban twins, Naomi and Lisa-Kainde Diaz. They are daughters of the late Cuban percussionist Angà Diaz. Naomi plays percussive instruments, the Cajon and the Batas, while Lisa-Kainde plays piano. Together the twins sing and combine modern pop, hip-hop and electronic influences with the traditional sounds of their father's Yoruba culture."

Rivers - the first few seconds remind us of Lorde, but only those seconds.
