“Sunshine” by Fassine – A Song Review

It’s ironic that a song entitled “Sunshine” has lyrics that can best be described as dark. According to Fassine, their lyrics relate to isolation and those difficult-to-handle thoughts that “wedge themselves in the door; a journey from logic to absurdity and back again.”
Fassine is a London quartet. The members are Laurence Langan, Sarah Palmer, James Hayward, and Tamas Szigyarto.
Our favorite feature of “Sunshine” – The combination of vocal layering and percussion that occurs during much of the final third of the song.

Lyrics of “Sunshine”
FOCUS ON THE LIGHT
PUSH AGAINST THE DOOR
WE KNOW THEY’RE OUT THERE
SHADOWS STAIN THE FLOOR
SO LOCK YOUR BONES
DISCONNECT THE PHONES
MAKING PLANS

DID YOU FIGHT THE MESSAGE?
DID YOU BREAK YOUR WORD?
TRY AND HIDE THE PIECES
ALL THE THINGS YOU HEARD

TIME TO MAKE A LIST
COUNT IT ONE TO TEN
CROSSING OUT THE NAMES
RUN IT TO THE END

SO LOCK YOUR BONES
DISCONNECT THE PHONES
MAKING PLANS, RESTLESS AND IDLE

WE’VE GOT SUNSET IN OUR MINDS
WE’VE GOT SUNSHINE IN OUR EYES
      [Repeat twice]

SO LOCK YOUR BONES
DISCONNECT THE PHONES
MAKING PLANS, RESTLESS AND IDLE
[Repeat]
