“I Don’t Want to Go Home” by Nick Mulvey – A Song Review

Yes, Indie Obsessive is subject to a mysterious gravitational pull that is generated by songs with the term “Home” in the title. But the gravitational pull is not great enough to overcome the resistive force resulting from the intent to feel pride in each selection of a song for posting.
“I Don’t Want to Go Home” is another blogworthy song with the word “Home” in the title. Of course it’s worthy. The song uses a horn instrument – always a welcomed feature. Toward the end, it employs vocal layering – and it is employed very effectively. The song blends male vocals (Nick Mulvey) with female vocals – and all voices are clear and pure. Add a string instrument, a crescendo, and a lyrical message - giving the song all the ingredients of a track that will withstand the test of frequent play over a sustained period of time.
Nick Mulvey has a background that includes being a founding member of a jazz quartet and having guitar training in Cuba. He is based in London and is deserving of more attention.

“I Don’t Want to Go Home” by Nick Mulvey - other than a shortened version, the song is not currently on Soundcloud.

Lyrics of “I Don’t Want to Go Home”
I was happy in the day and I was minding my own
When she saw the better out of me.
She told me I could be a maker
Though I'd probably make only half of what I need.
Waking early next morning in a sleeping bag alone
Well darling you give me no warning
And I don't want to go home

I don't want to go home
I don't wanna go home
I think of you I've always known
Nobody's ever born alone.

But the one time I mistake her
She back-flips the breath out of me
She could see I could be a maker
And yes I make-believe her make-ups on my sleeve

But how often a love so come along?
Come rapping and kicking at your door?
How often a love so come along?
But you say you don't want me anymore.

So I don't want to go home
I don't wanna go home
I think of you I've always known
Nobody's ever born alone.

How often a love so come along?
Come rapping and kicking at your door?
How often a love so come along?
But you say you don't want me anymore.

And in the fire find the snow
Illusion come illusion go.
Yes, in the fire find the snow
Illusion come illusion go.

So I don't want to go home
Cause I'm already home
I think of you I've always known
Nobody's ever born alone.

[Vocal layering from the above lyrics]

I think of you I've always known
Nobody's ever born alone.
