Cari Cari - And the Didgeridoo

Charles Schultz was the creator of the Peanuts comic strip, with Charlie Brown, Snoopy and the rest of that gang. For some reason that even he couldn’t articulate, Schultz found the term “Zamboni” humorous. It was merely the last name of the man who invented the ice resurfacing vehicle (Frank J. Zamboni). Schultz would often work the term into his comic strip.
Well, we have a similarly inexplicable connection with the name of a musical instrument, namely the "didgeridoo." The didgeridoo is a wind instrument that dates back as much as 1500 years. Its history is most closely tied to the Australian aborigines. But our strong interest in the instrument only goes back to 2005, when we discovered the band Brother. Brother was formed of three Richardson brothers and their friends. Their claim to fame was the ability to combine the bagpipes and the didgeridoo, and still have a sound that could appeal to the conventional music lover. Brother is still touring today, but with fewer brothers.

With that background, we have a confession to a weakness. Email invitations that identify the didgeridoo as one of the band’s instruments grab our attention. Add a reference to the Jaw Harp and we cannot resist. The band is Cari Cari, which is a duo based in Vienna, Austria. The bio that was part of the email invitation is pasted below:
"The musicians Stephanie Widmer (Vocals, Didgeridoo, Jaw Harp, Drums) and Alexander Köck (Vocals, Guitar, Synthesizer) met at Alexander’s EP-Release Show. Stephanie performed as their Support-Act.
Soon after, Stephanie left the Country [Austria] to head to Australia for six months, but when she returned with Didgeridoo and Jaw Harp with her, they spent the summer in a house by the Seaside.
They wrote songs all summer and recorded them in Alexander’s Studio, resulting in a six-track EP called "AMERIPPINDUNKLER" to be released in Spring 2014."
