The Great American Canyon Band - A Song Review

Sometimes one of us will ask the other whether we are too limited in our appreciation of genres. It’s easy for a person to conclude that she/he appreciates a wide range of different types of music. Speaking for myself (not my follow blogger), I can legitimately state that I become “indie obsessive” for songs that are rock, pop, shoegaze, rap, electronica, and even country. I can make that statement because I have felt connected with individual songs within the various genres. But an appreciation for a genre is more than an enjoyment of selected songs within that genre.

But this blog entry is not intended to motivate ourselves or any readers to take any steps to broaden an appreciation of a genre. The first paragraph is merely to setup one statement, namely, “Even if you do not have an appreciation for ‘country-infused Americana’ as a genre, we strongly recommend "Wild Heart.’” It is a song that triggers the “connection” which enables appreciation of a song without an appreciation of the genre in which the song resides.
“Wild Heart” is a song by The Great American Canyon Band, a husband-and-wife duo. Paul and Krystal Jean Masson are based in Baltimore, Maryland. “Wild Heart” begins romantically. The use of reverberation adds to the sentimentality. But we especially appreciate the build of power over the second half of the song.
      The lyrics are:
 Sometimes my heart,
yeah it likes to get out of the stable
But you're the only one
Who's ever been able
To coral all these thoughts
Running wild, so wild from the start
You're the only one who can tame my wild heart.

Adrift in your dreams
You and I lying in the attic
The kettle it screams so loud
Yeah it's almost out of habit
And the wind just blows along
I can hear it's quiet quiet song
And as I lie with you
Yes my wild heart is calm.

“Wild Heart” is a free download from the above SoundCloud offering. However, it is a .wav file, which is not to everyone's liking. The Great American Canyon Band does permit SoundCloud downloads of other songs in the usual .mp3 format. But the best approach may be to use the NoiseTrade offering to download all four songs from the "Lost at Sea" EP. It can be downloaded for the price of an email address, but a tip is always appreciated by the artists. The Noisetrade offering is (click on the arrow within the picture to sample the four songs):
